At the end of 2007, the very first XO laptops reached thousands of children in places like Uruguay, Peru, Mongolia and Ethiopia.
Through the Give One, Get One program from the non-profit One Laptop Per Child, donors in the United States and Canada recently raised $35 million by buying one XO laptop for themselves while donating another to children in the developing world.
At AMD, we’re proud to be part of a group that dares to try new solutions to the world’s problems. With simple machines that provide what these children need: low energy consumption, rugged hardware and far-ranging wireless connections. It is a new approach to education... to partnership... to world connectivity.
"Through the collaboration of our partners, OLPC has successfully begun to fulfill its mission of bringing education and learning to the children of developing countries," says OLPC founder Nicholas Negroponte.
And there’s more to come, through close collaboration across a growing number of communities, like the members of the 50x15 Initiative, founded by AMD.
Our goal is simple: Not technology for technology’s sake, but people and technology for your sake.
